Google TV - some hope for the human brain at last

.

.

I have spoken and written on how Television is the least challenging activity for the human brain and exposing children to Television can actually lead to retardation (read How to get a slackjawed look?). I wanted to read this fiery book called 'Glass Teat' by Harlan Ellison but somehow never could get my hands on it. But I saw his videos on Metcafe, man!!!!! he breathes fire and I really liked it. I really can say this with too much of confidence, but I think Google was the best thing to happen after a long long time. It deals with words - lots of words. Felt it brought the words back to reckoning. So I when I heard about Google TV, I was a bit taken back _ You too Google_ kind of feeling crept in.

So I decided to do some study on Google TV and you will find the jotting below this post.

Well, I think Google TV is good simply because its interactive and is a platform for innovation, which would mean that the viewer has the power in his hands to decide, hey now you have android phones as remote _ check it out. The options are so complex that he really has to think hard. Many thought that remote gave the power to the viewer. haaa haaaa remote is dumber that TV .. its frickin dumb with just some dumb numbers on it. But the remote was actually was the first step towards the weaning away of the dumb view from the glass teat. There was a total invasion to make idiots out of human race.

Google TV in my first cut view, integrates internet and fragments entertainment and enlarges the canvas. You will actually end up spending more time on searching rather than viewing. Which I think is very good. Searching is a better activity than dumb viewing. But when the speed increases one may actually end up using the forward button to skip the crap to get to the point. Now I quote from the Google TV blog "This is an incredibly exciting time — for TV watchers, for developers and for the entire TV ecosystem. By giving people the power to experience what they love on TV and on the web on a single screen, Google TV turns the living room into a new platform for innovation. ....."

Google announces the new Google TV platform players like Sony, Logitech, Intel, dish Network and Best Buy backing it. Its built on android and features the chrome browser with Flash Player. Google claims to bring "the web to your TV and your TV to the web."

Google TV is on an Android platform that can run many products, and it can run all Android apps (provided it does not require phone hardware). Well you still need the cable and the satellite box. It will have remotes with QWERTY keyboard the coolest thing is that you can use android phones as a remote.

Google TV uses search to give you an easy and fast way to navigate to television channels, websites, apps, shows and movies. For example, already know the channel or program you want to watch? Just type in the name and you’re there. Want to check out that funny YouTube video on your 48” flat screen? It’s just a quick search away. If you know what you want to watch, but you’re not sure where to find it, just type in what you’re looking for and Google TV will help you find it on the web or on one of your many TV channels. If you’d rather browse than search, you can use your standard program guide, your DVR or the Google TV home screen, which provides quick access to all of your favorite entertainment so you’re always within reach of the content you love most. Developers can start optimizing their websites for Google TV .
Soon after launch, the Google TV SDK and web APIs for TV will be released to help developers build even richer applications and distribute them through Android Market.
Companies — like Jinni.com and Rovi — are at the leading edge of innovation in TV technology. Jinni.com is a next-generation TV application working to provide semantic search, personalized recommendation and social features for Google TV across all sources of premium content available to the user. Rovi is one of the world's leading guide applications. We’re looking forward to seeing all of the ways developers will use this new platform.
Sony and Logitech will put Google TV inside of televisions, Blu-ray players and companion boxes. These devices will go on sale this fall, and will be available atBest Buy stores nationwide. You can sign up here to get updates on Google TV availability.
Every one needs a summary. My entire view of this is based on how the human brain will shift. I was very worried on TV churning out idiots. That was a season of dumbness. We have gone past that stage. The true era of knowledge will soon happen - I hope. Lets watch this development keenly. Hope its not just another wave - a google wave.
